Home Treatment for Acne

Home treatments for acne can be an affordable, yet highly effective method of ridding oneself of those unsightly skin blemishes. Many of these old-fashioned home treatments for acne have been passed on from generation to generation, and while times may be a whole lot different than when your grandparents were young, a lot of things remain the same. Try these home treatments for acne yourself before shelling out the big bucks on acne medications.

Basic All-Around Health
Drink lots of fresh, clean water to cleanse the body of impurities and maintain healthy-looking skin. Make sure you take vitamins, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, and exercise often to keep your body strong.

Toothpaste
This is most likely the most well-known home treatment for acne. Apply the toothpaste to acne before you go to bed and leave it overnight. It works by drying out the acne and reducing swelling.

Lemon
Apply lemon juice straight from the fruit and leave overnight. In the morning, wash off with warm water. Another method is to mix equal parts of lemon juice and cinnamon powder to create a paste, leaving it overnight. Yet another method is to rub your face with fresh lemon skin immediately before washing your face.

Honey
Mix three tablespoons of honey with a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to form a paste. Apply to affected areas and leave overnight. In the morning, wash off with warm water.

Vinegar and Salt
Mix equal amounts of vinegar and salt in a bowl and dab the mixture on the face. Wash off with warm water after fifteen minutes. You can also use straight vinegar, dabbed on the acne with a cotton ball. Definitely not something you want to do before going out!

Garlic
This is another foul-smelling home treatment for acne. Just cut a garlic clove in half and rub it directly on affected areas.

Cucumber
Use a blender or food processor to blend the cucumber into a paste. Apply the paste to your face as a mask, and leave on for thirty minutes. This method is also a great way to rejuvenate the skin.

Tomato
Mash up the pulp from a tomato and apply directly to the acne. Wash with warm water after thirty minutes.

Aloe Vera
Apply aloe vera juice to acne that has already ruptured to speed up the healing process and leave you with smooth skin.
